Quick answer

How far should you hold your phone?

13–20 inches (33–50 cm) — about arm's length.

That's the distance the American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends for smartphones. Any closer and your eyes work harder to focus, which adds up to eye strain. For kids, research links long periods of viewing closer than 20 cm with faster myopia progression.

Is there a Screen Distance feature on Android?

Android doesn't have a built-in equivalent of Apple's Screen Distance. Screen Distance Monitor & Alert adds it: it uses your front camera to estimate how far your face is from the screen and alerts you when your phone is closer than 30 cm (12 in).

How far should I hold my phone from my eyes?

The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends 13–20 inches (33–50 cm) — about arm's length.

Can holding a phone too close cause myopia?

Research links long periods of viewing closer than 20 cm with faster myopia progression. Kids tend to hold devices at about 24 cm on average — much closer than adults.

Does it work while I'm using other apps?

Yes. It runs in the background and shows an alert over YouTube, games, browsers and other apps when you get too close.

Is it really free?

Yes. Core features like the 30 cm alert and real-time distance tracking are free. Fine-tuning such as a custom detection distance (15–50 cm) and alert intervals is available with PRO.

Does the app store or upload my camera images?

No. Camera frames are processed on your device only to calculate distance, discarded right away, and never stored or sent to a server.
